Finding this butterfly and managing to get some shots of it made me quite happy since it was a while since I saw one, but from reports I've seen - they are having a really good year.
It's a painted lady (Vanessa cardui) - known as a cosmopolitan in North America - having an avening snack on a dandelion (Taraxacum sect. Ruderalia).
