Picking 'em Off - _TNY_3500
I'm almost certain that this is an Oriental carpenter bee (Xylocopa cf nasalis). I saw it and it's brethren on a large flowering tree outside the hotel reception at the My Lan resort and Restaurant on Sao Beach on the island of Phu Quoc in Vietnam.
A quite peculiar behavior here was that when they where done with one of those small white flowers they pulled it off and moved to the next one, making it look like it was snowing under that tree with small white flowers falling continuously.
I just can't get over how pretty those wings are and the size was the real surprise - these girls are a lot larger than bumblebees.
