How not to Shoot Jumping Spiders - _TNY_7409

I found this female Adanson's house jumper (Hasarius adansoni) on the frame around the mirror in the gents room (semi-outdoors) at a resort in Koh Lanta, Thailand.

Since I had my camera on my back I decided to try and capture it, but here we see a rather extreme example of why an undiffused ring flash isn't ideal when shooting jumping spiders. The ring flash is always reflected in the eyes, creating a rather unattractive ( )-shape, but here it picked up the flash through the mirror as well, creating this crazy reflection.
