This silver-washed fritillary (Argynnis paphia) is sitting on a flower with two common names. It's known as the dense blazing star and also the lovely name prarie gay feather. The scientific name is Liatris spicata and the flower in interesting as it unlike most others blossom from the from the top down and not the other way around which is the normal.
