This Ant Isn't an Ant - _TNY_3707

It wasn't until I got back home and in front of the computer that I realized that this shot of a weaver ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) on a very funky-looking flower in fact was of a spider! It's a female Kerengga ant-like jumper (Myrmaplata plataleoides).

This spider doesn't prey on the ants - it just imitates the look of them as most other animals are deterred by the prospect of being bit by the ant and all his buddies.

For a shot on the ant it imitates, please have a look here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/24651677554/

If anybody knows which flower this is - please do tell.
