Double Reflection Portrait - _TNY_6334

The problem with shooting macro with a flash in stron sunlight, like with this male black darter/meadowhawk (Sympetrum danae), is that if you don't shade the subject from the sun you may end up with both the sun and the flash reflecting in the eyes.

Of course, not all animals are particularily fond of having a large shadow covering them and will instead fly off, so it's always a compromise between the two.
