Having Dinner, pt. 2 - _TNY_2431

A bright red male vagrant darter (Sympetrum vulgatum) in the process of eating his dinner consisting of a grey fly which was devoured quite rapidly.

This species is also known as moustached darter because of the black line separating the eyes and the mouth - something which helps differentiate it from the otherwise similar common darter (S. striolatum).

Previous shot which shows it munching on the fly better: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/36949934484/
