(Species# 399) A Gilded Flicker Woodpecker

....captured in the Estuary of San Jose Del Cabos, Baja Peninnsular. This was one of my target species.

....In the 1960s, taxonomists grouped the Gilded Flicker with the Red-shafted and Yellow-shafted flickers as a single species, the Northern Flicker, in recognition of the extensive interbreeding of the forms.... Wildbird Unlimited.

 

It was later on seperated into a new speices on its own. Presently this Woodpecker is classified by the ABA as a code 2 species meaning "Uncommon".
