(North American Species #386) A Tawny-Shouldered Blackbird

.......captured in Cuba last Tuesday. View Large Size.

"This TAWNY-SHOULDERED BLACKBIRD is a resident on Cuba and in Haiti. The only U.S. record was two secured (specimens) at the Key West Lighthouse on 27 Feb.1936. Smaller and slimmer than Red -Winged Blackbird and with a slim, pointed bill; lesser coverts tawny, not red, and rear border has a narrow blended edge. ..." -National Geographic Fiedld Guide to Birds of North America.

This is a Code 5 North American species which almost means "forget it".

Wikipedia does not have a write up on this species.

Thanks to Janice (a lady birder whom I met at the resort), who told me about this species or else I would probably had mistaken this as a Red-Winged Blackbird.
