Thought it was about time for a gear update as I've added a couple of components recently and I've had a few questions from people asking about my setup.

Here you can see the MP-E set to 5X Magnification and mounted on a full set of extension tubes. I'll be using this setup more now as I recently got some with electrical contacts (meaning I can maintain control of the aperture while the lens is still mounted).

The manfrotto flash bracket is also new. This enables me to position the flash effectively while still supporting it from the camera body. This improves balance and prevets too much stress being placed on the lens mount.

I rarely, if ever, use the tripod and macro rail for live subjects so all of this is quite heavy. My brother recently got the Canon EOS-M mirrorless camera with EF lens converter so I am interested to know if that is a viable option. I might also look into getting a smaller flash, as you don't necessarily need that much power for the type of stuff I do. It would be nice to try and find a lighter, more compact package.

Oh and before you ask, no I'm not trying to compensate for something! Well, not much...

See here for how my setup has evolved.
