The Batman

Bruce Wayne fights crime as Gotham City's feared vigilante, their vigilant protector, their Dark Knight, their Batman.

The centerpiece of the collection, The Batman was the most important character to get right. I gave him a sense of bulk; a looming presence. He stands head and shoulders over most of the other characters in stature and in the height of his Crime Alley base stand. But also I wanted to give him emotion. His head is turned downward, facing his past, to reinvigorate the purpose of his vigilante mission.

Batman was surprisingly one of the easiest characters to build. His body was not challenging to construct, say in comparison to Joker, and really only his head was rather tough to pin down. I went though many different cowl ears and additionally I constantly altered the eyebrows to give him an increasingly angry appearance.

I custom made the cape, to avoid all the issues that come with official Lego capes (limited selection, discoloration, extremely expensive, poor sizes etc.), as well as ensure the style was to my liking. It was made to be exceptionally long, to give him a flowing appearance.

His belt was another key section, and my favorite area of the figure. I made it rather large, purposefully, to give the impression of preparation--that being Batman is ready for anything. It holds visible (perfectly scaled!) minifigure batarangs and a grappling gun and utilizes minifigure backpacks for pouches. I had at one point recolored the belt design in yellow for a Jason Todd Robin suit; although the character was pulled from the collection last minute.

I must say I'm particularity pleased with how the Batman turned out. Out of all the characters, that makes him the likely-est to not get smashed!
