89 (el alma)
My mother, Alma Lee Lancaster Grubbs, was on this earth for 89 years. For the last few weeks I've directed my daily image making practice to a kind of meditative memorial to my mother. It is perhaps ironic that I only just recently researched the meaning of her name. While there is apparently debate over it's exact roots it is generally thought to stem from the Latin word "almus", which means "kind", "fostering", or "nourishing". All of these certainly describe Mom, but I am also, especially, drawn to the Spanish meaning of "Alma" which is "Soul". Mom was, and I am sure still is, a beautiful soul.

This meandering, perhaps baffling (certainly to me), reflective project is now finished. This album has all 89 images: el alma.
