Jacob
Jacob, Tim Lowly © 1986, etching on paper
Jacob loves men. He dreamt he was playing ball with a boy. They tossed the ball back and forth. The boy laughed. Then there was a big noise and the boy was gone. Jacob, left with the ball, held it (“like a rosary”) outstretched. After a while his arms grew very tired. In desperation he cried out, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Waking up, he recalled the sun ascending as if climbing a ladder.
From The End - A series of six etchings with texts. Made in 1985 upon return to the United States after a year in South Korea and six weeks traveling in Europe.
