Sanne, Mia & Julia - Strangers # 785 / 800

Everybody celebrates Walpurgis--Vappu, in Finnish, Vappen in Swedish--in Finland, one way or another.

It is a well longed for time of the year when the dark and cold winter finally comes to its end and spring begins.

The never ending summer days and nights are just around the corner for all to jubilate !

People drink champagne, get together with friends, wear their white student caps, coronate Havis Amanda--a nude female statue in Helsinki--and get joyfully tipsy.

The three were standing under the famous clock in town, obviously waiting for friends, when I saw them.

I was immediately drawn by the contrast of their skin colour and loved what I saw.

Meet Sanne, Mia and Julia, 21 years old girls.

Julia is Sudanese, but has been living in Finland since she was 13 y/o.

There wasn't too much time to spare, eager to celebrate with their friends, I told them briefly about the photo project.

I tried different angles to capture the best available light and showed them the pictures in between shots.

Before we parted Sanne wrote down her email address for me, promising to forward the pictures to her friends.

I am sure they all had a wonderful time celebrating Vappu :-)
