2025 - Argentina - 133 - Salta - 26

The Train to the Clouds (Tren a las Nubes) pulled off the Viaduct Polvorilla and stopped for passengers to snap photos.

The viaduct is 223 meters (732 feet) long and rises 63 meters (207 feet) above the valley floor.

The Viaducto La Polvorilla was built between 1930 & 1932. It is part of the C-14 line of the General Belgrano Railway.

The railway line has 31 bridges, 13 viaducts and 95 culverts.

The main goal was to connect the city of Salta with the Chilean border, facilitating trade and communication between Argentina and Chile. The railway was also vital for transporting minerals from the Andes.

The design is a masterpiece of early 20th-century engineering, created by American engineer Richard Fontaine Maury.
