2022 - Querétaro, Mexico - 70 - Catedral de Querétaro

Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (Templo de Santa Clara) - Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Of St. Claire is gold gilded to the hilt.

The temple was completed in 1668 and became the seat of the Sacred Heart Parish in 1921.

The Temple of Santa Clara was built by Don Diego de Tapia, son of the founder of Querétaro, Don Fernando de Tapia, also known by his indigenous name of Conin.

At the beginning of the 17th century, owner of a large fortune and father of a daughter named María Luisa, de Tapia was persuaded to found a convent for Poor Clare nuns and for his daughter to take the habit of said order.

On January 8, 1606, the deeds for the foundation of the convent were formalized, through the initial contribution of 50 thousand pesos plus funds necessary for its maintenance.

During the Spanish rule it was one of the largest and most important convents in New Spain. Today only the church and a small annex remain, as a large part of it was destroyed during the Reform War.

At the beginning of the War of Independence, it served as a prison for Doña Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez.
