2018 - Mexico City - Plaza de los Compositores
Plaza de los Compositores (Composers' Square).
This small triangular plaza hosts the busts that pay tribute to great personalities of the music in Mexico. About 50 busts are present.
The plaza, inaugurated in 2007, is located in the Hipódromo Condesa neighbourhood, on Calle de Alfonso Reyes, between Patriotismo and José Vasconcelos.
The Composers' Square pays homage to Mexican talent and each bust was created by Mexican sculptors. Below each monument is a plaque with lyrics of the songs that made them famous.
Among them are Consuelito Velázquez, Gonzalo Curiel, Luis Arcaraz, José Alfredo Jiménez and Manuel Esperón.
As a curiosity only two women (so far) are present in the Plaza. One, Consuelo Velázquez, better known as Consuelito, was honoured by the Beatles who sang her "Bésame Mucho". (Kiss me a lot).
Bésame Mucho is one the songs The Beatles played for their audition with Decca Records on January 1st, 1962.
Bésame Mucho is a famous bolero and was recognized in 1999 as the most sung and recorded Mexican song in the world.
The song was written by Consuelito in 1940.
