2014 - Copper Canyon - Batopilas - Holy Shit, No!

This is a small section of the steep incline on a newer section of the road from the top of the Copper Canyon down to the Batopilas River bed. We are approximately at the halfway point - the decent drops 6,000 feet in 6 miles. We stopped here as the Suburban appeared to be having transmission problems. There were 5 of us in the Suburban and the other 9 in a 12 passenger van. It was decided to transfer 4 of the Suburban passengers to the van to lighten its load. When we stopped here the dominate odor was from overheated brake linings.

The road above this point is as winding as what's below. In many places the road was only one lane due to rock slides. The terrain the road is built on has a lot of unstable aggregate.

A couple of years ago we experienced the road between Mendoza Argentina across the Andes to Santiago Chile. It was an interesting road too but nothing as awe inspiring as this ride.
