I ended up continuing the pattern inwards, for a total of 32 rhombii, each one is scaled down 8/9ths from the previous, shifted over twice it's base, and rotated 80 degrees, so after 8, they are back in the same alignment, so it can either be seen as 8 lines, 4 curves, or one spiral. The shape of each rhombus is the same as the shape formed from the corners of any 4 sequential rhombii.

 

This is apparently what happens when I take time off work.

 

Cutting the little central ones out with an exacto knife was stressful, but Mylar is neat stuff. It doesn't stretch, and if you crease it, you can iron it flat.
