Art Deco skyscrapers from the early 1930s on a gloomy Sunday evening: You're familiar with the city of Battle Creek, right?

In downtown Battle Creek, Michigan, on March 31st, 2024, a view from the northwest corner of West Van Buren Street and McCamly Street. There are "The Milton" apartments (left, built in 1930-1931 as an office building; originally named the Old-Merchants National Bank and Trust Company Building; later known as the Security National Bank Building, the George C. McKay Tower, and the Heritage Tower; designed by Weary & Alford; 100002887 on the National Register of Historic Places; converted to apartments in the late 2010s); and the Battle Creek Tower (right, also built in 1930-1931; originally named the Central National Tower; later known as the Wolverine Tower, the Wolverine-Federal Tower, the Transamerica-Wolverine Tower, and the Transamerica Tower; designed by Holabird & Root; 08000218 on the National Register of Historic Places; partially converted to apartments in 2006).
