Moody Macau

This is a view of Macau, a SAR (Special Administrative Region) of China. Similar to Hong Kong which was returned to China after 100 years of British sovereignty in 1997, Macau was also relinquished from Portugal to China in 1999.

Macau is known as the "Las Vegas of Asia", as many of its principal attractions are its gambling casinos and hotels. (The Venetian Macau is twice as large as the Venetian in Las Vegas, making it the largest hotel in Asia area-wise). It is illegal to gamble in mainland China and Hong Kong, but the island is less than 60km (37 miles) west of HK by ferry or hydrofoil, and borders the Chinese mainland, so it's a fantastic getaway for the weekend.

I arrived on what turned out to be a very, very dreary day, but it made for a memorable experience.
