Titanium slag cake
Cake left over from titanium thermite with gypsum. I've also used cryloite (sodium hexafluoroaluminate, or Na3AlF6) as a fluidizer or flux. So the slag consists of alumina (aluminium oxide, or Al2O3), cryolite, and Calcium sulphide (CaS). I wonder if it would have been easier separating the titanium metal from the slag ifI left out the cryolite flux from the mix. Would be interesting to know why it's blue.
