Ronald

I ran into Ronald today while I was shooting mannequins in front of a wig store on Market Street near 5th. I was crouched down really low trying to shoot one of the heads with a wig near the ground level and was bent over when he walked by and said, "you gonna get in trouble taking those pictures like that."
I stopped shooting and stood up and said what do you mean. I'm just saying is all he said. They don't like people taken no pictures at that store. Ah, it's ok I told Ronald. They look pretty good don't they. He agreed that they did.
"You're not from around here are you," asked Ronnie. I live across the bay I told him. In Oakland, but I work in the City. What's your name I asked him. "Ronnie," he said.'
"Hey," said Ronnie. "I'm not gonna lie to you. I need you beer. You think you can help me out gettin' a beer?" I said that I didn't know about that but I was working on a $2 portrait project and that if he wanted to he could pose and I'd pay him $2. Ronnie thought about it for a minute and then agreed.
"I tell you what though," he said. I need a new portrait. You gotta give me a copy of it alright? I agreed to give Ronnie a copy of it and he gave me the address of the hotel that he's staying at.
Ok, I told him, Ronnie, how do you spell that. Actually he said, since we're doing a professional portrait, why don't you use Ronald. Alright Ronald I said.
I asked Ronald if he was from San Francisco, he told me no that he was originally from New Orleans. I asked him if he had any kids and he said he had three daughters. 30-year-old twins and a 23 year old daughter. All from the same woman though he added.
I asked him if he got to see his daughters much and he told me not as much as he'd like because they live back in New Orleans. He said he talked to his 23 year old on the phone yesterday though. Then he shook his head, looked up into the air and blew a kiss.
After I took a bunch of shots or Ronald I showed him them on the LCD of the camera. Oh, I like that one he said.
Now you're really gonna bring me that picture right? Ronald asked again. I sure will I told him. I told him that actually I just got back a few minutes ago from dropping off a print to Bernard over at 6th and Jessie. You know Bernard I asked him. I'm not sure he said. Here, I said, I'll show you his portrait on my phone. I pulled up Bernard's portrait and he said that it was really good.
I'll come by and drop the photo off next week I told him. Alright he said, if I'm not there leave at the desk. Will do I said. Thanks a lot he added, I'm $2 closer to a beer.
With that Ronald and I headed our separate ways.
