Helophilus pendulus ( ? F )

Very distinctive hoverfly with its stripy thorax.

I've really stuck my neck out and suggested it may be a female because of the shape of the end of the abdomen but I am as always prepared to be shot down in flames if I'm wrong.

I've been trying for a decent shot of one for a while as they are often off like a rocket if they see you getting too close but this lady obviously felt she was model material.

 

Best viewed large for sure.
