Now open both ways
Today the eastbound side of the new Intracoastal Waterway Bridge at Jacksonville Beach opened to traffic. Although I did not come to the beach (on my job) this way I did leave across it. This time I pulled the van over and got out and took the shot!
Interestingly enough they are still raising and lowering the old bridges for boat traffic as opposed to leaving them up all the time. Don't know what's up with that. In fact right after I took this pic I saw them being raised as I drove across the new one.
Still don't know if the new bridge will bear the name of the old one, the B. B. McCormick Bridge. Whenever I find out I will update the info.
The existing bridges will be demolished and a second bridge will be built where they are.
