BurrPieces

Here's my collection of 43 different pieces (67 in total) † for making six-piece burr puzzles. They are arranged into groups, based on the number of 'cubes'. I've placed 'notes' around each group. Pieces that are mirror reflections, are located beside each other. Pieces that are the same, are stacked in a pile. Large.

Each piece is of size 2 x 2 x 8 units. As an assembled burr puzzle, the maximum amount of wood that can be removed, without having a hole to the outside, or having the two ends disconnected, is ten 'cubes' of size one unit.

The trickiest part was getting hold of wood that had a square cross-section. After that, marking out the pieces, and cutting with a fine-toothed saw, was a matter of practice.

Using a chisel to remove the wood from the sawn 'slots', was practice for opening up the 'internal corners'. You may see a number of these 'internal corners' in the "five cubes removed or added" group, for example.)

For your interest, there is an error with this arrangement. One of the types of pieces, is in the wrong group. Can you find the misplaced piece?

† There are more than 43 different pieces, but these provide a good variety for exploring the burr puzzle. Many of those I did not make, result in inside 'holes'.
