Shinai fighting
A rather graphical demonstration as to why the Shinai was originally called the shinai-take (shi n ai ta ke) "Flexible Bamboo".
The shinai name is one of the Japanese language's few "irregular readings" in that it is written using the characters for Flexable (竹take), and sword/blade (刀 - katana or too) looks like it should be read as, "ta ke too" "flexible sword"/"blade" (竹刀 ) but is actually read as shinai "to bend"
