Mandeep Dhillon - Brigada de Salud Comunitaria 43 Manual de Primeros Auxilios
The Brigada de Salud Comunitaria 43 is a grassroots community health organizing effort based in the municipality of Tixtla in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. We came together in 2014 and since then have been organizing community based health brigades as well as training local community members as health constructors so that they can diagnose, treat and prevent the most common illnesses that are found in their region. As part of this work, about two years ago we also started running advanced first aid training courses for community members and organizers. After the first few courses we realized that it was necessary to put together all the knowledge and skills shared during the training in accessible didactic material so that community members who have taken the training or will in the future can have good quality study material that is adapted to their day to day reality. This is when we started working on our First Aid Manual for Community Paramedics. We believe it is not only a basic right but also fundamental to community health that we all recover knowledge and skills in the area of health as a basic pillar of autonomy. The Pollination Project grand funds will make it possible for us to completely cover the printing costs for 1000 copies of the Manual in order to distribute in different areas of the state of Guerrero where the courses have been and will be carried out as well as to other grassroots organizations and organizers to whom it can be of use.
