Exercises – river crossing
Another shot courtesy of Flickr user m20wc51, again from US Army SP4 Mueller, this time showing an M110 self-propelled howitzer crossing a river, presumably during the annual exercises between the South Korean armed forces and the US forces stationed on the peninsula. The exercises are, if memory serves, usually held in the spring, so this is either spring 1968 or spring 1969. Possibly confirming this, the fields in the background don't have anything poking up through the soil yet, even though they appear to have been ploughed. The MII0 was gradually replaced by the M109, and you can see a Korean version of that here.
The original shot can be found here, for purposes of comparison, and as you can see, the shot had, like others of Mueller's, faded and gone to purple a bit. I've tried to bring back the colour and contrast without having it go too far the other way, that is, to green.
