Dawn Moth

For National Moth Week, here's a lovely sphinx moth in Montana, photographed at around 5:30 a.m. with the dawn sky behind it. It's Smerinthus sp., I think S. astarte but maybe S. ophthalmica or S. cerisyi. Some sphinx moths drink nectar, but these have reduced mouthparts and adults do not feed. I think it was worth waking up early.
