Visitors

Most of you I took a trip to South Wales last summer to optimise my chances of grabbing a nemesis of mine - the Common (Moorland) Hawker. Shortly after my visit I found males on my patch at Thursley and Ramsdown, but the real highlight came when a male took up residence on my favourite pond for the best part of a month - shortly followed by a female.

The male would turn up briefly on each visit providing great sport, but the real challenge was the female who would only appear for a few minutes at a time before being 'bothered' by a male Southern. Extremely shy and difficult to approach, I grabbed a chance as she laid her eggs at the base of the grasses along the edge of the island.

To have both a male and a female turn up on the pond was a perfect end to the season.
