Black Darter (Sympetrum danae) - male

 

Over the course of nine days the only remaining body of water on Town Common - which usually stays hydrated all summer - had reduced to a two metre depression of wet moss and a sliver of muddy water.

 

This was all the small population of Black Darter, Common Emerald and Small Red had to sustain them.

 

To make matters worse these parched areas of lowland heath are suffering at the hands of irresponsible louts who think it's funny to burn them down.

 

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings...
