A rendezvous at Sairaag, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India

It is particularly noteworthy of the Himalayan tradition to dance holding hands and/or in a line. Researchers have ascribed such a dance formation all the way from Chamba in west to Nepal in east, with the tribes as ancient as aryans, khashas, bhotiays, kiratas celebrating in this dance style.

When we peep into the easternmost corner of Himachal, the ancient land of the Kanauras - the Kanawring deshang, it is with great wonder that one is made to believe as to why the scriptures have placed this ancient tribe as the Celestial musicians and dancers of the Indralok.

This dance in the Kanawring deshang is known as Kayang; it is more of a form of respect to sway around deities this way; when prayers blend into songs, when the beat of drum & piper leads to trance; when the anticlockwise kora is akin to a thousand pilgrimages.

There can't be a picture or a word that can describe the mystique of the Kayang; but only when swaying besides the Kanauras dipped in the Sura of trance..
