Comptometer

Coventry's factories employed women as office workers. One of the highest paid and most sought after jobs was operating a comptometer such as this one. Comptometers were mechanical calculators which took three months of training to learn to use. Jillian Elms used this comptometer at Dunlop, then later to do her husband's accounts at home.
