Sardar Sarovar Dam on the River Narmada

This is the almost complete Sardar Sarovar Dam on the river Narmada, Gujarat - India. This picture was taken from above the Dam. The 18 Meter high gates are yet to be installed. I dont know the exact length of the reservoir. But its approximately 100 Kms long. Installing the gates will increase the length of the reservoir by atleast another 50 Kms. The gates are ready but the installation has been put on hold because of a court order. The court will give a go-ahead for the installation of the gates only after the Gujarat State Govt completes the rehabilitation of all the villages that are going to be affected due to rise in level of the water due to installation of the gates.

1200 MW of power is generated by 6 x 200 MW turbines at the River Bed Power House.

and

Another 250 MW of power is generated by 5 x 50MW turbines at the Canal Head Power House

The power generated is shared among 3 states.

57% of the power generated will go to Madhya Pradesh(Because most of the land that has been submerged is in MP).

27% to Maharashtra

16% to Gujarat.

The water will not be shared.
