Anxious for Spring

January 9, 2019 – Anxious for Spring.

Even in the “dead of winter”, we have some happy and colourful residents in the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. This beautiful foliage belongs to Helleborus foetida which sounds much classier than its common name of “Stinking Hellebore” (its aroma is sometimes unpleasant). It is a beauty and also provides some of the first blossoms of the new season as winter beings to turn into spring. This one looks like it is happily springing forth – maybe it knows something we don’t!
