If this looks familiar, it's because it's a wider capture of a previous shot of La Défense. With the last shot, I really wanted to capture the sun, sky and La Grande Arche. With this one, I wanted to capture the whole sky, the colours and the magnificent road layout around the axe historique. I think that a sunset makes a wonderful picture in itself, but is made better ten-fold by an interesting foreground.

For those that don't know, this photo was taken from atop the Arc de Triomphe, facing towards La Défense, Paris' financial district. It was a bit of a rush to get here in time for sunset, I had to jog up Avenue des Champs-Élysées, and my use of a tripod was frowned upon. By frowned upon, I mean completely disallowed and I got told off several times.

It's shots like that that reaffirm my opinion that Paris is one of the most photogenic cities in the world. To see more of this wonderful place, have a look at my Paris set.

This really stands out on a dark background, so give the lightbox a go.
