A Stormy Night in Zagreb

I was only in Zagreb for about 24 hours and I'd spent the day researching locations for some night-time photography. This is one of about two landmarks in Zagreb, the other being the cathedral. Sadly the cathedral was covered in scaffolding, so didn't provide any great photo opportunities.

I had been round this square several times and not found a great angle. Then I saw this one by standing in the middle of the street; luckily Zagreb isn't renowned for it's heavy traffic. It had been overcast all day and I seem to recall it raining later in the day. Regardless, I liked how the storm clouds during the blue hour set off this lovely warm-lit square. I always think that warm lighting against the blue hour is a wonderful combination and, as with a lot of shots, I think you need some clouds in the sky to provide a bit of interest.
