I know you're all probably sick of sunsets by now, but I'm finding that sunsets in Paris have got a certain magical quality to them. This is following on from yesterday's photo which was taken from atop this monument. A friend of mine commented that they loved this place, so I thought why not stick up another photo, this time with the famous arch in it.
Inaugurated in 1836, the Arc de Triomphe (Triumphant Arch) was built to honour those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars. The names of all French victories and generals are inscribed around its surfaces. Beneath it lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
Photographically it was a very busy day; starting off at La Conciergerie (one of my favourite shots and interiors) and finally ending up late at night at Le Louvre. This shot required quite a bit of masking to get rid of the huge amount of cars that were present at the time. I also would have liked to get a better angle, but I traded that for having the setting sun in the middle of the arch.
I'm off to Norway later today, so I shall not be online much. I'll hopefully post some more photos early next week. This looks much better larger! (Press L)
Someone was telling me I should sell prints of these. If you happen to want to buy any (thanks Paul!) then you head over to Red Bubble and get some there. I believe you can also buy some off 500px, although I'm not too sure how good they are. Anyone got anything off them / fotomoto before?
