Apache Elementary School, Albuquerque, NM
Created by Apache Elementary School, Albuquerque, NM
Artists: Jyzaiah, Jayden, Elizabeth, David, Xia, Roman
Title: Traditions Back Then and Now
Teacher: Beth Kassay
Theme: Home
Materials: Canvas and acrylic paint.
Did you enjoy this project? Yes, the students loved the way it developed.
About: Students began their art by depicting a ceramic pot. Each student added designs to the pot.
As we discussed in art the use of the empty space at the same time we re-visited the theme. Students decided to put food in the pot, because part of a home is the food we eat there. We looked traditional food that would have been eaten by Native Americans and they choose to put "The Three Sisters" - corn, beans and squash. These are foods we still eat and enjoy today.
Chili was added, because we love our chili here in N.M. In the smaller pots- there is salt and pinto beans.
