Firebird/Metamorphosis

Thank you to Jlior for her photo which includes a wonderful, balletic pose. The flame-like effects and other editing really was a labour of love! Netherless much fun was had in producing this (I hope) dynamic image.

"Firebird" pays homage to the great ballets that Stravinsky composed the music for. Admittedly, the incredible choreography and music for "The Right of Spring" was more inspiring to me than "Firebird", but I think artists from all disciplines owe a debt to the creativity and bravery of these ballets.

"Metamorphosis" refers to the concept of "shape-shifting" or (the appearance of) animalistic, physical alterations that occur in dance. These concepts are important and prevalent today, although bodily transmogrification has been a concept that has always fascinated us. Indeed the animalistic and bodily aspects of dance are ways of coping with the overt incidence of new technologies and the "loss of being in touch with the body" that we experience in contemporary societies.
