0704 Crosby on the changing table (online)
July 4
I got a few hours sleep this morning while Emily nursed and we got intermittent visits from nurses. We kept having trouble getting the little dude to nurse properly. Letting him grab my finger seemed to calm him down during the struggle. My ability to calm him down got Emily frustrated, until Amanda laid down the truth: “To be fair, he’s known you for 9 months. Brad is still a novelty.” Well put.
I rushed home to let Arri out around 9am–she hadn’t been out since 5pm yesterday, but she was a champ. I gave her a little walk and got the mail. That trip was surprisingly rough; my back has been killing me still, and it is not fun. Mom and Dad brought us donuts this morning and hung out for a good while. We ended up bringing in another lactation specialist after they left, and I think we’re finally getting to a good place.
Croz left to get his pencil sharpened at 12:30, which was a pretty quick deal. We went back and forth a lot on that one. Hopefully it’s all good!
Audrey and David came to visit us for awhile this afternoon. It got to a point where we weren’t really sure what we were sitting around waiting for. We’d long since passed the 24-hour mark since Crosby was born, so what was going on? I went and asked the desk people and they said they’d been trying to get a hold of Dr. Noble all day so he could come in and discharge us. Weird…
Around 5pm, the doctor arrived, dressed in street clothes, to discharge us. He literally walked in, asked if we were ready to go, shook our hands, and asked us to have a happy 4th, before leaving to start the discharge process. Then a nurse came and offered a rubella vaccination. The discharge papers came at 6, and we finally left at 7pm, 62½ hours after arriving at the hospital.
Mom, Dad, Audrey, David, Kitty, and Taylor all came over to the house right away. They made us brats and stuff for dinner which was super nice and helpful! By 9pm the party had subsided and we got cleaned up for our first night at the house.
