A homeless woman at Veteran's Park, Albuquerque

She wasn't technically homeless. In fact, she owned a home in Colorado but had come to Albuquerque to help her daughter get her life straightened out. The daughter was a narcotics addict and had initially welcomed her mother but quickly grew to resent her interference and had ordered her out of the house. She did not know anyone else in the city, but she would not leave without making at least one more effort to get through to her daughter. But, her daughter would not open the door to her. So she spent her nights in the park. She and her dog. She said Veteran's Park was peaceful. She had spent a few nights at a city park, but had been hassled by one of the women. She wasn't bothered here. We spoke for a few minutes and then she was met by a gentleman about her age, or a little older, who walked up and spread out a sack lunch at a nearby picnic table. I said goodbye and wished her luck and hoped that she would get through to her daughter. "I will," she said. "I don't quit, I'm from New Jersey."
