Untitled (Blue Nude I) (Embossed Cellophane and Photograph)

In these pieces I went back to a physical approach to altering the original imagery. I wanted these pictures to look at the forcing together of what stereotypically would be associated with things that attract men (i.e. the nude woman) and things that would stereotypically be associated with things that attract women (The floral pattern embossed on the Cellophane) and the juxtaposition that these create with each other. This was a comment on quite obviously dated ideas: not every woman likes floral patterns and not every man is attracted to this sort of image. It was also a slight dig at the society that we live in. indeed on the surface we seem to be pretty conventional but look a little closer and it all falls apart.

These experiments seemed to turn out in quite a highly sexual way. In many of them I tried to over lay the patterns so that they followed the lines and curves of the body (where possible) or where flowers could crown the head behind (almost like a halo). In this one especially though the flowers take on something else: the counter curve that the pattern makes against the body behind alludes to the act of intercourse and the properties of the Cellophane also have connotations of a sexual nature. All of this seem to darken this piece in many ways.
