Sarah's 30th Birthday cake

Here's Sarah in her party dress! (I do seem obsessed with little black dresses don't I!).

I was tasked with making a cake to reflect a shoe fan, who can't decide which shoes to wear ... or indeed which clutch bag to choose! (sounds like a girl after my own heart!).

By sitting her on a giant parcel I also managed to factor in a loopy bow - I have wanted to have

a go at a loopy bow for a long time - there are some fabulous examples here on flickr - I just hope I did them justice! ..... This bow by the wonderful Christina inspired me most - I loved the idea of a contrasting edging.

I had planned to do a big shoe on a shoe box but chickened out and went for my usual staple, safe option of a figurine and items reflecting her interests! - but huge thanks to Jules for letting me pick her brains on the big shoe idea (she is the queen of the fondant shoe!).

The black specks on the cake are the black glitter I used to bling up the shoes!

As usual, the figure face is modelled using Aine2 'heads up tutorial'. If you want to make faces like this you simply HAVE to buy Lorraine's tutorial on making heads!

'heads up tutorial' it's the best few pounds I ever spent!

12" x 8" cake on 15" x 12" board - vanilla sponge with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream filling.

Hand bags and figurine hand modelled, for the shoes I used the Jem shoe template (Thanks to Liz for lending this to me again! - I've used this twice now, Liz hasn't even used it yet!)
