Floyd Muad'Dib
Sculpture: Walks Among Stars: Pueblo, Colorado (CO)
This wonderful sculpture is at the south end of the Riverwalk. The texture of the beadwork and the deerskin dress and the addition of real brass bells around the lower edge of the dress is wonderful. Please view this at the original size to examine the sculpture more closely.
I don't normally manipulate my photos this much, but it was difficult to photograph the sculpture without including visual clutter.
This is what's on the sloping granite slab at the base of the sculpture:
WALKS AMONG THE STARS
Artist Dave McGary's 2004 bronze sculpture
depicts a late 18th century Lakota woman
displaying her beautiful heirloom star quilt.
As the Indian Wars ended and the Northern
Plains tribes faced relocation to reservations
the Sioux women began making patchwork
quilts as replacements for traditional
buffalo robes. Today, the star quilt is a
symbol of prestige, sentiment, belonging and
status within the contemporary
Lakota culture
