Research: Arboviral-associated Neurological Complications (Peru)
Physician conducting Weber test to detect presence of sensorineural hearing loss caused by dysfunction of the vestibulocochlear nerve, inner ear, or the parts of the brain that process sound. Participants with positive results will be referred to a neurologist for further assessment
-----------------
Through the assessment of ~400 individuals in Iquitos, Peru, this study aims to characterize the clinical spectrum of neurological complications, such as Guillain-Barre syndrome, in patients testing positive for arboviral disease.
With support from USAID (through CDC), this study is being implemented through a TEPHINET contract with Cayetano Heredia University in Peru. Collaborators include NAMRU-6, CDC, and the University of Washington.
