Spring Shuffle
With a pair of Federal Railroad Administration track geometry vehicles in tow, a Union Pacific locomotive pulls Norfolk Southern train 906 west through Williams Grove. The colorful train is passing by Turkeyfoot Nursery, which is just opening for Spring planting season.
The two FRA cars are being shuffled from Harrisburg to Hagerstown for an inspection tour of CSX tracks. The best I can tell, that little car is a former US Army mess car that was later surplussed to Amtrak where it was converted to a baggage car, working long-haul trains in the years before finding its way to FRA service.
