D137DVT Land Rover British Red Cross Ambulance 2002 1

D137DVT 1978 Land Rover stage 1 V8/Herbert Lomas ambulance. This ambulance was originally constructed for export to the Iranian Army. During the political unrest following the overthrow of the shah, a trade embargo was placed on Iran. As a result this ambulance was sat at the docks at Middlesbrough until 1985 when it was noted by the British Red Cross. Negotiation to purchase followed. From this end, much assistance was given by the Injured Jockey fund. The result was that she first became used by the British Red Cross Society Cleveland Branch in 1986. Allocated call sign "Red Cleveland 2" her base was at Redcar center. Seen here in 2002 at the great north run. See next photo for more history.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne registration. Rather an unfortunate co-incidence that the registration number is also a medical complaint.
