"Painted Pottery: The potters of Aztec Ruins, presumably women, took time to decorate their product with skillfully painted geometric designs. Early pottery styles came from the south - the Chaco Canyon Country. This pottery has mineral paint, hatched designs, chalky surfaces, rims often undecorated, and tapered rims. Later pottery styles came from the north - Mesa Verde Country. This style of pottery has vegetable paint, solid designs, hard white surfaces, ticked rims, square rim with thick walls." ~ museum display/exhibit, Aztec Ruins National Monument, Aztec, New Mexico.
